Resins, Plastics, and Delivery Update
about 2 years ago – Sun, Oct 23, 2022 at 10:45:34 PM

Look alive, Heroes!

Now that the factory is back from the National Day Golden Week holidays we have a better idea of how things stand for Wave 1 delivery.

Getting the packing material to ensure boxes arrive safely in backers' hands seems to be taking a little longer than expected. But the factory estimates packing will be complete in about a week or so.

Packing material for cartons with 1, 2, or 3 core boxes.

That done, all that's left is to ship the cartons to backers across the various hubs. All going well, delivery should start still in October, as estimated,  at least for nearby backers. Although, of course, when each backer gets their Wave 1 boxes will depend on the transit time to the various hubs all over the world. We will update you as estimates become available.

We know some of you were hoping to get their wave 1 boxes in time for Halloween, and we apologize for that not being the case for most backers. We did (and are doing) our best to get everything done as quickly as possible, while making sure not to rush aspects that could compromise the quality of the final product. We are very confident the games you will receive will not disappoint!

Meanwhile, work proceeds on all the Wave 2 content. All development has wrapped, and graphics is working on finalizing the print files for each box.

All the engineering work is done for the master resins across the whole line. And it makes for an impressive and scary lineup.

Too many resins to even count.

Final refinement of the plastic samples is an arduous process, as these are all multi-part characters with lots of fine detail. Many of the samples have to go back and forth several times to ensure everything is coming out as it should be. Slowly but surely we're amassing a fine collection of plastic samples. When they're ready for their closeup we'll be sure to share more pictures.

Oh ok, we can show at least one closeup, of one of the craziest creations across the whole line! Glad to say it's coming out amazingly well.

A Few Cool Plastic Samples
about 2 years ago – Mon, Oct 17, 2022 at 06:09:22 PM

Look alive, Heroes!

Today we’d like to show you a couple special plastic samples we received from the factory. But before we get into this, we’d just like to address a question raised by backers on the previous update, where we showed the full Marvel Zombies box: “Is there room to store the tokens?” We are happy to say that yes, the slots on the bottom tray are big enough to not only hold the dice, cubes, and color bases, but also all the token that come in the box!

Now let’s get to those samples. First off, we have the Hydra Soldiers from the Hydra Resurrection expansion. Besides just how nice these plastic samples look, with crisp detail, especially on the textured base, what we want to show here is a change from what was presented during the campaign. Seeing as the Hydra Soldiers are not really the same as the regular Enemy Troopers/Walkers that come in the core boxes, we thought it would be better for them not to have the same plastic color as those. And so, we decided to make them in a nice Hydra-green! And don’t worry, this quite a different, richer shade of green from the Zombie Heroes, so there will be no mixing them up.

HAIL HYDRA!

The other plastic sample we received, which we just HAD to share with you guys right away, is Zombie Iceman from the X-Men Resistance core box. The clear blue plastic looks so good on him, especially when the game piece is backlit. Marco Checchetto’s insane concept of Zombie Iceman launching out of an ice skull makes for a very unique piece!

Say AAAAAAAHHHHH!

Marvel Zombies Core Box Unboxing
about 2 years ago – Sun, Sep 18, 2022 at 03:13:31 AM

Look alive, Heroes!

Happy day! We have just received the first early production copy of the Marvel Zombies core box! Very soon the factory will start assembling the full production and then we start the process of shipping out Wave 1. We’ll keep you updated as we get more info, but for now, let’s dive into this beauty!

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the amazing cover art by Marco Checchetto. It really sets the tone for what we’re about to experience.
The bottom of the box gives us a glimpse into the game within.
Opening the box, we have some neat artwork along the sides.
Our trusty rulebook.
First, we have the box of plastic pieces. We explored this before in the white sample, but in case anybody missed it, let’s go through it again.
The back of the box has guides to the trays.
The top layer of plastic pieces.
Closer look at the Zombie Heroes, Super Heroes, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents, and Bystanders.
Rows upon rows of them in the bottom tray.
At the bottom of the box we have a tray with the rest of the components.
Don’t miss the ID Cards, whose slot is under the tiles.
The token punchboard is nice and colorful. Thick and easy to punch.
The tiles are rich in detail.
ID Cards for Hero Mode and Zombie Mode. (Remember that the X-Men Resistance box is needed to play in Hero Mode.)
Spawn cards for the S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents, including a few nasty surprises.
Zombie Trait cards bring a slew of abilities (and some dangers).
Super Hero and Bystander spawn cards, as well as the reference card for the Avengers Sign.
Hero Mode content: Zombie Hero and Bystander spawn cards.
Finally, the last bit of plastic pieces: Tracker Cubes, Color Bases, and Dice.

Galactus Early Sample Unboxing
about 2 years ago – Sat, Sep 03, 2022 at 03:09:27 AM

Look alive, Heroes!

While production of the Wave 1 core box continues, we are working hard to make sure everything else will be ready for when the time for Wave 2 comes along. There’s a lot to work on, but nothing is quite as daunting as the Galactus the Devourer expansion, featuring the gargantuan Galactus game piece. We have just received a sample for the factory going over the entire expansion, so we can not only check if everything looks good, but also that everything is safely packed to arrive intact to backers’ homes.

As one would expect, Galactus the Devourer comes in a pretty sizeable carton.

Opening the box, we get a glimpse of the contents inside. The detachable parts: heads and right arms, come bagged individually.

The separate parts are safely accommodated in a large plastic tray. The design of tray holds them tight, so they don’t move around during transport.

Removing the tray, we get a glimpse at the rest of the content. Everything is kept in place and secured from bumps and scrapes by airbags. The gameplay box is also stowed next to Galactus’ body, wrapped in oversized bubblewrap.

Removing the packing material, we see Galactus’ base and body.

Everything out of the box, waiting to be put together.

Galactus assembled in his zombie version.

Galactus assembled in his hero version.

And don’t forget the actual expansion box, for which we got an early white sample. It contains the Zombie Hero and Super Hero versions of Silver Surfer, as well as a Galactus dashboard, cards, tokens, and rulebook with special rules and missions. As the box needs to be big enough for the rulebook and dashboard, there’s plenty of space in the tray for sleeved cards and for storing the tokens.

Plastic Token Samples
about 2 years ago – Sun, Aug 21, 2022 at 06:33:53 AM

Look alive, Heroes!

As production of the Wave 1 core boxes continue, everything else is also certainly moving ahead as a steady pace.  All game design is finished, though developers are still doing the last rounds of playtesting on the Stretch Goal characters. Meanwhile, the graphics team is hard at work creating all the print files for the different boxes. At the same time, the factory is molding all the game pieces.

One such thing is the sample we just received: the Plastic Tokens!

Keep in mind these photos are of early samples, not production pieces. This is mainly to check how the engraving interacts with the print. The final print will be brighter and less glossy. And of course, the final tokens will not come in a plastic sprue!

In any case, we are extremely happy with how these tokens are coming along. The engraving really helps make the design and details pop, and the tokens feel great in the hand.

Objectives, Team vs Team Starting Zones, Broken Window, Avengers Sign, Galactus trackers, and Activation marker.
Poor broken Avengers Sign...
Exit, Canister, Spawn Points, Sentinel Hand (all charged up and ready to go), and Doors.
The aftermath: Exploded Canister, spent Sentinel Hand, and broken Doors.
